Senior board members Clara Kim and Anthony Nguyen alongside their project teammate Seito Sanford presenting their project.
On April 23rd, two senior board members, Clara Kim and Anthony Nguyen, presented their final senior design project. Their project, titled "Utility and System Design for Green Ammonia", showcased the work and analysis they have been creating over the past year. Their project presented an innovative alternative synthesis method for generating ammonia. The synthesis of ammonia accounts for approximately 2% of the entire world's energy consumption, so advances in this field of research are essential for a greener future. Great job seniors!
On April 11th, a team of sophomores from CBE, including AIChE sophomore representative Karam Alkaissy, won the Engineering Dean's Advisory Board's Penn Innovation Forum. Teams were given a prompt and asked to create a pitch for a potential solution using engineering skills. Their team designed a self-sustaining autonomous water purifier for the production of off-grid drinking water. Their design utilized pressure-retarded osmosis and reverse osmosis to purify brackish river water, and it would allow for regions without access to power to generate clean water. Congratulations to Karam and his team!
Karam Alkaissy and fellow teammates were awarded the distinct honor of winning the Penn Innovation Forum.

Each year, the Engineering Dean's Advisory Board hosts their Undergraduate Awards Ceremony to celebrate the achievements and successes of undergraduate students in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. For the 2024-2025 academic year, seniors Clara Kim and Anthony Nguyen, and junior Anthony Senouillet, were among these winners.
Clara won the American Chemical Society Award, an award given by the Philadelphia Section of the ACS to a senior in chemistry and chemical engineering on the basis of scholastic excellence and demonstrated leadership in professional activities upon recommendation of the faculties concerned.
Anthony Nguyen won the Penn Engineering Exceptional Service Award, given by SEAS faculty to recognize and honor outstanding students for their service to the university.
Anthony Senouillet won the AIChE Delaware Valley Section Award, an award given to a student for their performance in chemical engineering and other studies as well as their promise as a chemical engineer.
Congratulations to all winners!
